HO,MING-KUEI was born on the New Year ’s Eve in the late 70s and grew up with a
dramatic economic grow .Foreigner culture played an important role and
influenced her imagination a lot. In her life time, Ren E Door ( a super tool from the Japanese animation of the Robot cat Doraemon) would
be her dream gift. She received the academic art training since junior high school
and grew critical thinking at MA study in Sheffield, England. She currently lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan.
Ho was growing up
surrounded by a vast amount of Japanese culture. She was influenced a lot by Koreeda
Hirokazu’s(是枝裕和) film After Life. In the
movie, deaths were sent to the next stop where they made memorial scenes they
chose to stay forever. Their memorial scenes were produced based on the subjective angles
from the interviews with the deaths. There were no further information or details to explain the
scenes.
Ho's drawings and sculptures somehow contain a
similar quality. This subjective isolation is often demonstrated in her works.
Works could be selected from, for example, a trip through a national park from
the memory of her failing relationship, or the image of a shocking explosion and
its smoke. Without the related clues, they always show loneliness with no
specific background. She imagines that " We may not experience the same event,
however, we may still share the same sensation".

自七零年代後段的除夕夜出生,何明桂在經濟快速轉變的年代成長。外來異文化的滲透讓她嚮往,並影響其想像力至深。一生中最想擁有的寶物是日本漫畫Doraemon機器貓的「任意門」。自中學以來受的是教育體制下的學院美術訓練,研究所的自我思考訓練則在英國工業城市雪菲爾養成。目前住在台灣台北。
何明桂在大量的日本文化中成長,日本導演是枝裕和的其中一部電影:死後世界(After Life)影響她很深。在電影裡,靈者被送至下一個地點,也即是他們所選擇的生前回憶場景或片段。他們的回憶場景被以靈者主觀的角度來製作成擬真的拍攝場景,因此這些場景或片段中並沒有更進一步的訊息來解釋。
何明桂的畫與雕塑在某種層面上有相似的質感。這主觀式的孤立感常常出現在她的作品裡,他們可以是截自私人失敗感情的一段在國家公園的旅程,或是震撼的爆炸以及它產生的煙。沒有相關的線索,他們總是在一個沒有特定背景中寂寞的表現出來。她想像著我們也許沒有經歷著相同的事件,但是我們卻仍然擁有相似的感知。
